Etihad Modern Art Gallery is a multi-purpose art space in the heart of Abu Dhabi. The owner, H.E. Khaled Siddiq Al Mutawaa, envisioned a friendly and versatile art space, which encourages the promotion, discussion and growing appreciation of the burgeoning Emirati art scene.Despite being a relatively young organisation, Etihad Modern Art Gallery has undergone remarkable professional development since its establishment. Having opened in 2013, EMAG organised significant art shows and local heritage exhibitions, creating bonds with the international art scene, as well as academic institutions. It has also cooperated with a number of international institutions, such as the French Institute, the Museum of Fine Art Budapest and Houston Museum, Kunstquartier Bethanien, Berlin, or the Sovereign Art Prize.

Exhibiting artists: Alaa Al Qedra, Maisoon Al Saleh, Taqwa Al Naqbi

Alaa Mahmoud Alqedra

Alaa Mahmoud Alqedra is a Palestinian-Swedish artist born in Dubai, UAE.  She graduated with honours from University of Sharjah's College of Fine Arts and Design.  She creates sculpture, installation and drawings using household materials. Alqedra’s work playfully invites us to view our relationship with utilitarian objects.  Alqedra uses concrete to recreate images that she remembers from her childhood — the dollhouse, Lego bricks, teddy bears, kitchen objects and other figurines of animals and dolls — which are now lost to her because the place that she now lives in and works is all about concrete.  Her fondness for objects stems from her experience as a displaced Palestinian who finds herself searching for familiarity in the foreign spaces that she passes through, creating a sense of belonging through these moments of asylum.

Maisoon Al Saleh

Born in 1988, Emirati artist and entrepreneur Maisoon Al Saleh is active in her practice both in Dubai and internationally. She graduated from Zayed University in 2010, with a degree in Interior Design. Al Saleh’s first solo show was at the Maraya Art Centre, Sharjah, in Autumn 2010.  Al Saleh’s work has been exhibited in UAE at various exhibitions, including Art Dubai; Emirati Expression at Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi; Farjam Foundation at DIFC, Dubai; and at Abu Dhabi Art 2017.  Her works were also exhibited in Macedonian Museum, Greece; Palazzo TE Museum, Italy; Centro Cultural Caja GRANADA Memoria de Spain; Art Science Museum at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore;  and Art Nomads - Made In The Emirates that's presented by Etihad Modern Art Gallery at Kunstquartier Bethanien, Berlin.
