About Xiaoyang Cao

CAO Xiaoyang (b. 1968, Jiangsu province, China) is known for his innovative signature technique of highly intricate charcoal paintings, and endeavors of transcending the boundaries of traditional ink painting. His atmospheric landscapes evoke the magic of ancient masters, and capture the spirit of nature treasured by artists over a millennium of landscape practice. Recent exhibitions include the Eighth Triennial of Contemporary Art in Slovenia 2016; inauguration exhibition of Gongwang Museum of Art in Hangzhou; and a major solo exhibition at the Museum of China Academy of Art. Cao Xiaoyang is currently the Department Head of the Foundation Studies of the China Academy of Art.
