Olaf Breuning’s textured painting ventures back to nature, and the pressing environmental concerns we face today. By employing elements found within nature to discuss nature itself, Breuning creates the rough landscape by incorporating the usage of woodcut slices to explore the foreseeable circumstances of mankind’s detrimental actions.
Olaf Breuning studied photography at the Zuercher Hochschule der Kuenste and Winterthur (Switzerland). Breuning’s artworks, in whichever of the plethora of media it emerges in, deals with the “big questions in life” through a language that merges mass-culture and art manifesting a body of ephemeral works made permanent via artistic documentation constituting of humorous art without ridiculing art. Breuning has had over 320 exhibitions worldwide, his works are exhibited in the most important galleries and art fairs worldwide, and has many public installations and permanent public sculptures in various locations in North America and Europe, proving a fixture in the contemporary arts and culture.
Born in 1970 in Schaffhausen, Switzerland Lives and works in New York, USA.
Carbon 12 was established in 2008, initiating a comprehensive, firmly global, program of institution-grade artists. Internationally active, Carbon 12 continuously introduces and promotes both established and emerging artists to the UAE contemporary art scene, supplementing its 5-6 annual exhibitions with diverse contextual activities including publications and talks that actively engage the public and educational institutions. The playful, organic process that constitutes the creative production of Carbon 12’s artist base is facilitated and mirrored by its location in Al Quoz.
