Fatema Al Mazrouie is an established Emirati artists who has made her mark on the regional art scene in recent years. A graduate in Visual Arts and Design from Zayed University, Fatema’s artistic career began at the Salwa Zeidan Gallery in 2008. Over the last decade, she has participated in most of the gallery group shows including annual participations at Abu Dhabi Art and Art Dubai including other international art fairs.

Her first auctioned painting was at Sotheby’s in 2010. In 2013 she was chosen as the gallery’s featured Signature artist at Abu Dhabi Art where several of her works were acquired by the Zayed National Museum.

In 2014 she was selected to join the Lepsien Art Foundation residency in Germany - one of the most prestigious art residency programs in the world. She also participated in three international group exhibitions which took place in London and was part of a line-up of 50 Emirati artists whose works were showcased at the Art Foundation Paris, France.

Regionally, her works have been become a staple in several private collections including the Salama bint Hamdan Foundation. She was one of the main artists featured in the “Portrait of the Nation” exhibit organized by ADMAF in 2016. Her most notable solo show - a unique tribute to the late Sheikh Zayed, “Man who built a Nation” – was showcased at the salwa Zeidan gallery in 2016.

Fatema’s artworks represent an integrated, dimensional world in which several components are aligned using a combination of textile materials originally used in the Emirates during the 1940s and '50s. These traditional elements and models are deeply rooted in the UAE cultural milieu, most of which are no longer used in the modern world, yet together contribute to the creation of intriguing mesmerizing artworks.

Reputed to be one of the most provocative Emirati Artists, Jalal has managed to challenge his followers not only by the subject matter, but in the manner in which he creates his art. Jalal is the first artist of his kind to combine metal with digital art, his limitless approach to producing art is reflected in his dual style of creating art. He comments, “If one medium does not deliver the emotion I want in my artwork, I will reach out to another medium that will.” He uses digital paints from up to 9 different computer programs, before embedding them in twister industrial metal, that result in mind jolting three dimensional imagery transcending the boundaries of the frame directly into the onlooker’s psyche. Jalal’s work borders between the modern digital, through to dark gothic sculpture resulting in his unique paintings that are confessions of the soul. He portrays inner most human emotions in his work, both good and bad. For over 18 years, Jalal Luqman has conducted many seminars and workshops in schools, colleges and universities as well as being a public speaker for the promotion of art in the UAE. He has been a member of the UAE delegation to many international art events and has held national and international art exhibitions in the UAE, New York, Tokyo, Egypt, Kuwait, Morocco, Beijing and Czech Republic. In 2006, he cofounded the Ghaf Art Gallery, the fist contemporary Art Gallery in Abu Dhabi.

Lamya Gargash was born in 1982 in Dubai, U.A.E. She earned a B.S. in visual communication from the American University of Sharjah, U.A.E., in 2004 and a M.A. in communication design from Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, University of Arts London, in 2007. 

Concerned with the relics of an ever self-renewing architecture, Gargash documents the forgotten spaces in public and private realms in Emirati society. Throughout her career, she has won a number of awards for her work in film and photography. At the 53rd Venice Biennale (2009), her series Familial, which documents budget hotels in the U.A.E., was featured in the U.A.E.'s first Venice Biennale exhibition, It's Not You, It's Me. In 2004 she received first prize in the Emirates Film Competition, as well as a Special Recognition award in Dubai Media City's Ibda¹a Media Students Awards for her movie Wet Tiles. Her first artist book, Presence (Dubai: The Third Line, 2006), is a photographic series documenting recently vacated houses and structures in the U.A.E. that have been abandoned or left for demolition. She has since then documented various interiors & spaces ranging from social & cultural clubs to budget hotels & formal living rooms known in Arabic as the Majlis.

Gargash¹s work has been included in several group exhibitions and film festivals, including View From Inside, Contemporary Arab photography, Video and Mixed Media Art, FotoFest 2014 Biennial Houston, Texas, USA; I Exist (in Some Way) (2013), The Bluecoat, Liverpool, UK, in partnership with Look/13, the Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival and Belgian Nomadic Arts Centre, Moussem International Photography Festival; A Light unto Nations Photography Show (2007), Toronto, Canada. She participated in several film festivals such as Locarno Film Festival, Locarno, Switzerland; Osaka Film Festival, Osaka, Japan; Amsterdam Arab Film Festival, Amsterdam, Netherlands; Paris Arab Film Festival, Paris, France and Dubai International Film Festival, Dubai, UAE. Throughout her career. Her series Presence was presented in solo shows at Galerie Brigitte Schenk, Cologne, in 2010 and Galleria Marabini, Bologna, Italy, in 2011. Another series, Through the Looking Glass, was exhibited in a solo exhibition at The Third Line, Dubai, in 2012 & most Emirati Expressions November 2016.

Reem Al Ghaith is an artist and designer. Al Ghaith holds a BSc in Visual Communication from the School of Architecture and Design, American University of Sharjah. Her work examines changes in the urban and social landscape of the UAE, often with sophisticated all-around installations that relate to tradition and history, yet do not fall into banal representations and fascinations of the subject. The intertwined structure of her work deliberately places itself far away from being representative.
