A non-profit art space and cultural platform located at Al Qasba, Sharjah, the Maraya Art Centre is an initiative by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) designed to promote young artists from both the Arab region and the international art scene. Officially launched in March 2010, the Centre is one of the UAE’s most significant venues for Contemporary visual arts.
Maraya Art Centre strives to support artists through exhibitions, commissions, residencies and research opportunities and hosts a growing resource library and the Maraya Video Archive.
Visitors are invited to explore the outdoor street art initiative Jedariya, which is scattered around the Emirate of Sharjah. In close proximity to the Maraya Art Centre, the 1971 design gallery on Flag Island in Sharjah is another highlight not to miss. Founded in 2015, this multifunctional design space is dedicated to displaying all forms of contemporary design.
The group exhibition “International Connections: The Annual CFAD Faculty Exhibition 2020” features newly created works of the Faculty Staff of University of Sharjah.
The participating artists and designers coming from different countries reflect the internationality of the faculty, as well as their commitment to educate an international student body from around the globe in a range of disciplines.
International Connections presents a complex visual dialogue between the varying disciplines of art and design. In addition to recognizing the diversity of CFAD research and creative output this exhibition aims to contextualize the art and design profession within the broader cultural atmosphere of the UAE as a crossroads of cultural and intellectual perspectives.
